I found a Norco Avanti road bike at the thrift shop for $50 CAD. It needs a lot of work. Is it worth it?

Hard to tell the condition it is on. Maybe better to buy used from your LBS they could back up what they sell and maybe get tune ups or something. They would fit the bike for you and tell you if the bike is up to the task.
