Why do SOME men resist more State involvement in the so-called "family"?

Nothing to hide. As a Father, my family is my responsibilty, not the state's. I know better than the state how to raise my children. Not all parents are capable of bringing up children though and in some cases need state intervention. Others who are capable will quite happily p resposibilty over to the state to relieve themselves of the responsibility. I believe that the best policy is to give as mush responsibilty to parents and that the state should only be there as a safety net.
