Why are a lot of conservatives brainwashed into thinking drilling will solve the oil crisis.?

I think it is from watching too much corporate controlled media(mainly FOX) the US peaked its oil production in 1971, hence why we have been dependent since then, we now import about 70% of our oil. We have 4% of the world's population, yet we use 25% of the world's oil. We only have 3% of the world's oil reserves. There simply isn't oil to drill, not to mention the environmental degredation it will cause; yet the fossil fuel industry spends billions of dollars on advertising permeating the mainstream media. Certainly the oil companies would love to drill, hence corporate media it won't help Americans. THe only way out of this mess is to conserve, cut oil consupmtion by 25% over the nest 20 years and spend money on cleaner alternative forms of energy, or enter srious economic disaster.
