Being good at the piano?

I need a hobby and i was thinking of piano. I know that there are grades up to grade 8 (the highest?) but i hear its 1 grade a year. Would I have to go up to grade 8 to play songs on the piano for example bruno mars or something? because i dont think i would want to go for that long and just learn for fun. Thanks.
