HP pavilion dv5000 "will not turn on" - suggestions?

My mother just called. Her HP pavilion dv5000 laptop will not power up. When laptop is just sitting with no commercial power, it will not do anything. When laptop is plugged into commercial power with charger, there are some blue lights under the lid (screen) that are illuminated. Tapping the space bar does not do anything. Pushing and releasing the power on does not do anything, pushing - holding for 12 seconds and releasing does not do anything, pushing and holding for 30+ seconds does not do anything. Does anybody have any further suggestions?
